  8. Basil Kirchin first started playing the drums in December 1941 at The Paramount, Tottenham Court Road, London, where his father Ivor had the resident band. In those days life as a civilian was not an easy one, the family having to spend every night in the underground tube station as the German blitz raged overhead.
