Britten’s prolific operatic output included the children’s opera The Little Sweep (op. 45, 1949) which is coupled with a play about putting a stage work together called Let’s Make an Opera. In 1951 he composed Billy Budd, after the story by Herman Melville, for the Festival of Britain.
