Claude Barruck Joseph Lelouch ( French: [klod ləluʃ]; born 30 October 1937) is a French film director, writer, cinematographer, actor and producer. Lelouch grew up in an Algerian Jewish family. He emerged as a prominent director in the 1960s.

He achieved prominence in 1966 with his film Un Homme et une femme (A Man and a Woman), which shared the Grand Prize at the Cannes film festival and won two Academy Awards (for best foreign film and for best original story and screenplay).

Claude Lelouch was born in Paris, France, on 30th October 1937. His father was an Algerian Jew, his mother a Catholic who adopted her husband's religion. Lelouch's love of cinema sprang from a dramatic incident in his childhood. During the Occupation, when he was four years old, he and his mother were pursued across Paris by the German police.
