Apr 18, 2023 · The city buried in water has made its way into plenty of movies throughout history, including some very recognizable properties. However, some of these films are better than others at taking the viewer on a magnificent underwater journey to the lost city.
- Atlantis, the Lost Continent (1961) – Atlantis Movies. In my mind, Atlantis, the Lost Continent is the best Atlantis movie and my top recommendation. The film effectively combines the Atlantis myth with an Ancient Greece storyline.
- Aquaman (2018) A pretty good movie all up, and it’s quite memorable, but I wouldn’t consider it a classic. Even so, watching Aquaman for the first time is well worth it.
- Journey to the Centre of the Earth (1959) Journey to the Centre of the Earth is one of my favorite older films — it’s an absolute classic! A group of curious minds reach the earth’s core and discover the lost mythical city of Atlantis.
- 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea (1954) The thing that stands out for me in this movie with Atlantis themes is the giant squid attacking the vessel. The movie bases itself on Jules Verne’s 1870 novel, and Atlantis is part of the storyline.
