May 3, 2024 · Organist Sven-Ingvart Mikkelsen is one of the most versatile musicians on the Danish music scene, renowned for his surprising and frequently unconventional programs. Sven-Ingvart is a graduate of the music conservatories in Esbjerg and Copenhagen and is Professor and Head of Department for Organ and Church Music at The Royal Danish Academy of Music.
Sven-Ingvart Mikkelsen Organ Sven-Ingvart is a graduate of the music conservatories in Esbjerg and Copenhagen, and he has supplemented with studies in Vienna with Prof. Michael Radulescu, and in Paris with the organists Marie-Claire Alain and André Isoir.
Sven-Ingvart Mikkelsen is department head for organ, church music, period music and consort, and has been a professor at RDAM since 1 December 2019. Previously, he has been employed at both the Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts in Esbjerg and the Danish National Academy of Music, and has given courses and lectures at academies of music and music schools in Denmark and abroad.
Sven-Ingvart Mikkelsen has performed extensively in concert engagements as organ soloist and chamber musician in a number of European countries and USA. He has made several CD recordings as soloist, including the complete organ works of Nicolaus Bruhns, Georg Böhm, J.A. Guilain and Nicolas de Grigny as well as a world premiere recording of the Trio Sonatas by Johann Adolph Scheibe.
Symphonic rock music from the 1960s and 1970s is largely inspired by baroque music, especially by Johann Sebastian Bach. This inspiration led Organ Professor Sven-Ingvart Mikkelsen to arrange a series of rock songs for the classical instrument, the organ.
