Hugo Wilhelm Friedhofer (May 3, 1901 – May 17, 1981) was an American composer and cellist best known for his motion picture scores. Friedhofer was born in San Francisco, California, United States. His father, Paul, was a cellist trained in Dresden, Germany; his mother, Eva König, was born in Germany.
CAREER HIGHLIGHTS. 1919-22 Plays cello in chamber recitals throughout San Francisco, e.g. Sorosis Club Hall. c1921-28 Cellist in various theatre orchestras: Royal on Polk Street, Haight Street, Castro, and Granada theatres. Also stage band arranger under Andrea Setaro, Maurice Lawrence, and George Lipshultz.
