Mahasamund is a city in Mahasamund District in the Indian state of Chhattisgarh.It is situated on the Mumbai-Kolkata and Raipur-Vishakhaptnam National Highways. It is one of the largest (ranked 11th) and most important cities in the State. The city is divided into 30 wards and 5 zones and is also the biggest city in the Trans-Mahanadi area.

Jan 11, 2016 · There is not one but three temples in the small village of Khallari, 25 km from district headquarters, mahasamund and 80 km from Raipur. Jagannath temple is an archeological site built in the 13th century by a cobbler named Devraj. Khallari Mata temple is atop a hill and one has to negotiate 840 high steps to reach the place. It is about 250 year old. In the foothills there is 200 year old another Khallari mata temple.
Ghaudhara (Daldali): The place named Daldali is situated at a distance of 10 Kms from Mahasamund, in its east direction. An ancient temple of Shiva and Godhara is present in this location. From the godhara, there is an endless flow of water. An enchanting forest encircles the northeastern side of the village.

The Jungle Satyagraha commenced in 1930, starting from Mahasamund. Disregarding the ranger's warnings, a crowd marched from Tamora village into the forest, resulting in numerous arrests. Satyagrahis continued to defy the rules by cutting grass from the forest every day. The government made efforts to suppress the movement, imposing Section 144 around Tamora and making many arrests. On the fourth day, a gathering of ten thousand people materialized.
