5 days ago · In Java, HashMap is a part of Java’s collection since Java 1.2. This class is found in java.util package. It provides the basic implementation of the Map interface of Java. HashMap in Java stores the data in (Key, Value) pairs, and you can access them by an index of another type (e.g. an Integer).
HashMap in Java is like the legacy Hashtable class, but it is not synchronized. It allows us to store the null elements as well, but there should be only one null key. Since Java 5, it is denoted as HashMap<K,V>, where K stands for key and V for value. It inherits the AbstractMap class and implements the Map interface.
Java HashMap. In the ArrayList chapter, you learned that Arrays store items as an ordered collection, and you have to access them with an index number ( int type). A HashMap however, store items in " key / value " pairs, and you can access them by an index of another type (e.g. a String ).
