May 1, 2023 · Undergraduate and graduate admissions are accepted for start in April and in October. Undergraduate information is usually available roughly nine months in advance and applications are usually submitted roughly four months in advance. The dates for graduate admissions vary widely.

There are 2 processes for admission to the traditional undergraduate program of UTokyo. One is for students who graduated from high schools in Japan (General Screening Test) and the other is for students who graduated from high schools abroad (Special Screening Tests).
Graduate School Admissions. At a Graduate School, students may enroll either as a regular student or an international research student. For degree programs offered in Japanese, please note that a high level of Japanese proficiency is required.
Undergraduate Students. A key feature of the undergraduate education system at the University of Tokyo is that students spend their first two years studying a broad spectrum of liberal arts courses in order to firmly acquire fundamental skills.
