foul_owl. Getting the error: Thermal Runaway, system stopped! Heater_ID: bed. Which causes octoprint to panic and disconnect my printer. This happens maybe 10 minutes after starting a print, after everything is warmed up and the actual printing starts. Happens almost every time.
Thermal runaway can occur when the wrong PID setting are used. Thermal runaway can occur with loose wiring. Check you wiring to the Heater and Bed, Some hotbed with give thermal runaway if you use PID settings. What are your PID numbers from the LCD. What kind of 3D Printer do you have. Edited 2 time(s). This later developed into the USB comms not working either, which was a problem as I use OctoPI. So I finally bit the bullet and got a new RAMPS board and Arduino Mega.

Thermal runaway is caused by failure to heat in specified time, the symptoms you see are magnified by lack of PID tuning. On thingiverse I have group Dan365, I have RC8 running smoothly and your welcome to complied hex file.

If your print cooling fan is too aggressive, it can lower the temperature of the bed enough that the controller thinks that there's a problem. I've had this happen with just a weak fan blowing across the build plate.

Removed the heater and made a new tin foil cork reflective insulator. Fitted a mosfet board. My firmware was set to heat the bed using the bang bang method. Changed this to the PID method and did an auto tune at 90c. So far it has stopped halting for runaway errors. Still takes ages to get to 115c but at least it gets there now.
My printer is running Marlin 2.0.7.2 on a SKR 1.4 turbo. Since a few days a specifc print always stops at the exactly same position. Jan 5, 2016 · I just encountered a thermal runaway condition while attempting a print. It occurred twice and having read your post I found it quite useful. Feb 17, 2015 · You can disable the test by setting THERMAL_RUNAWAY_PROTECTION_PERIOD to 0 or you can make it bigger to make it less sensitive. If your temperature is unstable you might need to tune the PID constants. Or perhaps you have a fan that cools your hot end too much.
