Mar 4, 2021 · To the best of my understanding, it comes from the concept of other kin. Basically, identifying as a certain character on a non-physical level. Though like many others words, this one too seems to now be more or less removed form its original context and definition.

So a dog-kin would believe that they are a dog, have a dog's spirit, were a dog in a past life, and/or generally identify as a dog instead of as a human. So if someone is an has an anime character as their kin-type, they believe that they are that character or that they have that character's soul or something.
