I have Github Desktop installed and I see in the software there is a "Open in Git Shell" option that opens PowerShell in Windows. I've been trying to use Git from CMD but it doesn't find it, do I have to install Git from https://git-for-windows.github.io/ this way I can use it from CMD?
In Git Desktop, the Git executable path is not directly exposed or configurable within the application itself. Git Desktop installs Git in its own installation directory and manages the Git installation internally, making it accessible to Git Desktop and other Git-related operations performed through the application.
Sep 7, 2016 · Messing with Firewall, AV, running as Administrator - still nothing except endless re-spawning GitHub Desktop.exe processes. My temporary solution: download recent version; extract GitHubDesktopSetup.exe with 7Zip ; then extract GitHubDesktop-0.6.2-full.nupkg navigate to \lib\net45; and run GitHub%20Desktop.exe
Apr 24, 2021 · Also, the shortcut to GitHub Desktop starts in a different directory altogether, so modifying that would be no use. I know that I can use the command line to git clone to any directory, but it would just be nice if one could configure the desktop version to do that as well.
Nov 4, 2016 · I would like to run npm install on GitHub. I tried doing so by cloning the repository through GitHub Desktop, but nothing happens on the online copy of the repo when I commit the changes. I am trying to do this for parse-server.
Apr 17, 2020 · The shell integration documentation of GitHub Desktop mentions that support for WSL is now available in the beta version. Alternatively, the docs also explain how to add a shell of your choice by modifying the code appropriately.
Updated for the Github Desktop. Search up "Edit the system environment variables" on windows search. Click environmental variable on the bottom right corner. Find path under system variables and click edit on it. Click new to add a new path. add this path: C:\Users\yourUserName\AppData\Local\GitHubDesktop\bin\github.exe
Jan 23, 2018 · From issue 1214, there does not seem to be any support for a 32-bit version of GitHub Desktop. Their own tracking of usage points to a vast majority of users with 64-bits Windows. Share
