  2. Mar 20, 2024 · Hi, I check dozens of patterns every day and use "define pattern" first and then "pattern fill" (the pattern preview is inconvenient for me). When I fill the layer with pattern it always shows the first pattern on the list. Is it possible to change the settings in Photoshop so that the fill will be ...

  3. Oct 4, 2019 · When I go to define patterns, the preview box shows a very thin selection as a pattern instead of the proper pattern. Argh i dont even know how to explain the problem properly and it is so frustrating! Define brush is working fine. When I go to define a brush wtih the same image it looks perfect.. f...

  4. May 13, 2024 · I just figured out you can only define a pattern from the entirety of your canvas contents. Not from a selection. Your full canvas has to contain the repeat tile. You define pattern from your single tile, then you increase canvas size to do a pattern fill layer to see how the tile repeats

  5. Mar 7, 2015 · Member. Hello! I'm brand new to Photoshop and am currently taking my first photoshop class. I have version CC 2014 installed on my mac. I'm trying to create a pattern and I have my shape with a rectangular marquee around it. The feather is set to 0 pixels. I go to Edit > Define Pattern but "Define Pattern" is greyed out.

This is since my mac updated recently (to Catalina 10.15.7) and I have the latest version of Photoshop (22.1.1) on CC. I am able to save a pattern, like usual, by selecting the canvas, then going to Edit > Define Pattern, it asks me to name the pattern with no other options ...

  8. Oct 3, 2023 · Community Expert , Oct 02, 2023. Copy the selection to a new layer. Right click the layer and chose Duplicate layer. Use the drop down and select New. That opens the tile in its own window, and you can define the pattern from there. I forgot to add that you'll need to Trim the transparent pixels before defining the pattern.

  9. May 17, 2011 · Thanks for taking the time to reply, Chris, but none of those apply. The selection is 31x31 pixels. The app is definitely not in a modal state. In fact, the Define Brush Presets item is enabled, but Define Pattern (just below it) is not. This is the first pattern preset I've tried to create, so I'm certainly not at the max.

  10. Jan 14, 2011 · Actually, in my case, when I had trouble, I had to make sure the image was embedded. Otherwise, it acts stupid and doesn't want to allow you to drag and drop or even select "Define Pattern" from the Edit menu. Once it is embedded, it should be okay. Hopefully between all of these different answers one of them will work!

  11. Sep 11, 2012 · Incorrect cropping of "Define Pattern" in 32-bit mode in some cases. Reproduce steps: - Create a new 32-bit image with size 32x32px. - Fill it white. - Select the right-most pixel column (x = 31, y = 0..31) and the botto-most row (y = 31, x = 0..31) and fill them black. - Select everything (32x32) with the selection tools. - Edit > Define Pattern:
