Jun 15, 2021 · For one thing the actors in the PBS version seem more like a credible family as opposed to the combo of Russell, Redgrave, Massey, and especially Paxinou (who is really out of place). Second, you can believe Hackett and Weller as lovers, which is impossible with Paxinou and Leo Genn.

May 5, 2020 · I had no idea that Rosalind Russell was a Republican. Especially after so convincingly playing "Auntie Mame." She supported Richard Nixon in 1960 for President, and in 1962 for Governor of California. What a bummer.

Dec 6, 2022 · If memory serves, Hayley wrote nice things about everyone connected with the film (Rosalind Russell, June Harding, Ida Lupino) in her book. She also wrote about being thrilled to meet Gypsy Rose Lee. June Harding also played Elizabeth Ashley’s sister on Broadway in “Take Her, She’s Mine” a few years before “The Trouble with Angels”.
Both of the movies called My Sister Eileen are based on a play without music of the same name (1940), which starred Shirley Booth as Ruth. Two years later, Columbia Pictures made a movie version, also without music, with Rosalind Russell (and the studio's top moneymaker, The Three Stooges, in a cameo appearance at the end).
