  1. Nov 1, 2015 · I'm interested in hearing guitarists' opinion as to how good is Larry Lalonde, the guitarist from Primus. I'm not a guitarist so I wouldn't know about how technically proficient someone is on guitar. I asked because Larry seems to be highly revered among guitar players but tbh his choice of modes/scales in his solos sounds somewhat off to my ears.

  2. I used to chat with Jeff of possessed pretty regularly we even played games together and according to Jeff he and Larry are still decent friends I had asked Jeff something about Ler and apparently he has a warehouse full of guitars and a guy to take care of them all which is pretty neat, also Jeff is super humble and has always been really kind to me after getting to know him there will never be a part of me that dislikes possessed or Jeff, I’ll also be seeing possessed in September and I ...

  3. Larry LaLonde is a great example of a player learning the rules to break them. He studied guitar with Joe Satriani, who, in turn, studied under jazz pianist Lenny Tristano. From what I understand, LaLonde has some serious technical proficiency.

  4. Mar 26, 2023 · TIL Larry LaLonde was a member of Possessed before Primus, and played on the first Death Metal album “Seven Churches” My mind is blown, this man helped invent Death Metal (this album even predates Scream Bloody Gore), and then went on to bring his talents to Primus.

  5. Feb 13, 2014 · I don't know the player well but I sifted through a couple of vids and heard a lot of the dorian mode (He tended to gravitate towards the 6th a lot) and some mixolydian, lydian-dominant, (he loved that dissonant sharp 4) whole tone and diminished stuff.

  6. Jan 23, 2021 · Larry Lalonde’s guitar solos have always fascinated me because they are always so strange and bizarre but seem to perfectly fit the song every time. Personally Id say my favorite solos of his are the Tommy the cat solo and his solo on Professor nutbutters house of treats. Im curious to know what everyone elses favorite Larry Lalonde solos are.

  7. Aug 29, 2020 · Larry Lalonde is one of my all time favorite guitarists with one of the coolest tones and style of playing ive ever heard. Im not quite sure what guitar or guitars he used on this album though, and because it is the album with my favorite performance of his, I was curious to find out. most likely his white maple neck H/S/S fender stratocaster ...

  8. Jul 11, 2018 · Only took 20 years but I finally figured out the South Park ending theme close to 100%. Larry LaLonde, you’re a bastard.

  9. Jul 11, 2018 · Larry LaLonde: "Primus toured with Rush on their Roll the Bones tour. They're the one band that we're all fans of, and Alex is way up there on my personal list of important guitar players. It's him and Eddie Van Halen probably. I was always really into the Moving Pictures album and I love "The Trees" with that classical intro.

  10. The most remarkable thing about Larry is that it's incredibly rare to find a guitarist that good who is willing to take a backseat. He's great. Little interest in hearing him outside of Primus - he fits with Les and Herb perfectly, which is what a guitarist is supposed to do. Excellent player. Definitely.
