Turn Chat on or off in Gmail. On your computer, open Gmail. At the top right, click Settings See all settings. Go to Gmail settings. At the top, click Chat and Meet. Next to “Chat,” to turn Chat on or off in Gmail, select Google Chat or Off. Click Save Changes.
On mobile, a navigation bar appears at the bottom when you go to the “Chat” tab. You can switch between home, DMs, spaces, mentions, and starred, or start a new chat.
