The two masters vowed to nurture Buddhist talents and to establish a full-scale “conglin” to welcome nuns from all quarters to pursue their religious practice. They named it Chi Lin Nunnery, (“Chi” means aspiration and “Lin” means lotus - a symbol of the Pure Land) wishing to enhance the Pure Land School practice in Hong Kong.

Chi Lin Nunnery's Tang style timber structures are based on the pure land sutra transformation painting of the prime Tang time in Cave 172 in Dunhuang. The first courtyard has “two towers and one hall” as the backdrop.

Chi Lin Nunnery. Opening Hours: 9:00am to 4:30pm. When either the tropical cyclone warning signal No.3 or above or the black rainstorm warning signal is issued, the Nunnery will be closed. It will re-open if the warning signal is cancelled before noon.
After seven years of redevelopment, Chi Lin Nunnery has metamorphosed into a Tang style monastic complex which is grand and dignified with seven Halls and multiple courtyards. The wish of Chi Lin’s founders for an ideal “conglin” for nuns from all quarters was fulfilled.
