The Place Beyond the Pines is an OK movie. For about the first half of the movie before Gosling's character is killed, the movie has some potential. Gosling plays his hard-luck character very well and totally believable. I liked the chemistry between him and Eva Mendes even though it was not developed much. After Gosling's character is killed, the movie becomes somewhat mundane. The overall story line could have been more interesting and involved but it seemed to be rushed.

Aug 15, 2021 · The Place Beyond the Pines (2012) is so close to being a masterpiece. There is just one moment, one character decision, that is stopping it. Discussion I just watched this film for the first today after hearing about it for so long, and I must say, it is one of the best films I’ve seen in a long time. An instant favorite for me. I thought the three-act structure was very interesting and worked well in terms of the story Derek Cianfrance was trying to tell.
