Sachin Dev Burman (1 October 1906 – 31 October 1975) was an Indian music director and singer. A member of the Tripura royal family, [1] [2] he started his career with Bengali films in 1937. He later began composing for Hindi movies and became one of the most successful and influential Indian film music composers.

Sachin Dev Burman started his career in the early part of this century around 1926/27 as a radio artist in Calcutta. He had an extremely productive and hugely successful innings, both in Bombay and Calcutta, that ended with his death in 1975.
He sang these for 41 years, creating ‘new music’ all along, to the pleasure of his generation, before and after. In Hindi films, where he came to be known as ‘Burman Dada’ and amongst the younger set as ‘SD’, he struck a chord with all … from the front benchers to drawing room occupants.
