Spock's Katra and body are needed to lay him to rest on his home world, Vulcan, and without help, McCoy will die from carrying the Katra. Disobeying orders, Kirk and his officers spring McCoy from detention, disable the USS Excelsior, and steal the Enterprise from Space dock to return to the Genesis planet to retrieve Spock's body.
Not quite as good as voyages II or IV, but light years ahead of I, Leonard Spock Nimoy s directorial debut has Kirk and crew going AWOL with the Enterprise to chase after their fallen comrade.
Read no further if you don't want to know whether Mr. Spock is alive at the end of "Star Trek III: The Search for Spock". But, if you, like me, somehow had the notion that there was a 100 percent chance that they would find Spock (if only so he would be available for "Star Trek IV"), then you will be relieved to learn that his rediscovery and rebirth pay due homage to the complexities of the Vulcan civilization.

Great ending having Spock back and great performances by Leonard Nimoy, William Shatner and Christopher Lloyd as Klingon leader....With the usual Nichelle Nichols, James Doohan, Walter Koenig and the rest of the cast and excellently directed, Star Trek III: The Search for Spock is another classic in the series.
