Timeline of Evelyn’s Journey. July 1965. Born in Aberdeen. On 19 July 1965 Evelyn Elizabeth Ann Glennie was born to Isobel and Arthur Glennie in Aberdeen, Scotland. Evelyn was taken back to the family farm outside Methlick – a small village in the beautiful Aberdeenshire countryside.
Evelyn Elizabeth Ann Glennie was born on July 19, 1965 in Aberdeen, Scotland, the youngest of three children and only daughter of farming parents. She began studying piano at age eight and two years later began to play clarinet. As her hearing began to deteriorate (Evelyn is profoundly deaf), she switched to percussion at age 12.
As a child, Evelyn Glennie loved music. After the nerves in her ears began to degenerate, she became deaf. Defying doctors’ predictions, Evelyn persevered to find an innovative way to listen and play percussion, becoming an award-winning musician. The words and art reflect the rhythm and movement of her experiences.
