The composer of East of Eden, Rebel Without a Cause and Fantastic Voyage, who won Academy Awards for Barry Lyndon and Bound for Glory, suffered a heart attack and passed away early Tuesday, March 4, at the Motion Picture and Television Country House & Hospital in Woodland Hills, Calif.

May 11, 2018 · ROSENMAN, Leonard 1924 – PERSONAL. Born September 7, 1924, in Brooklyn, NY; son of a store owner; married; wife's name, Kay. Education: Attended University of California, Berkeley; studied piano with Julius Herford and Bernard Abramowitsch; studied composition with Arnold Schoenberg, Roger Sessions, and Luigi Dallapiccola.
His multiple chamber works and other music for the concert hall are being preserved for posterity as part of the Leonard Rosenman Collection at New York University. His final public appearance was at a May 2005 concert at Walt Disney Concert Hall, where the Los Angeles Philharmonic played excerpts from his REBEL WITHOUT A CAUSE score to audience acclaim.
Dec 5, 2017 · Leonard Rosenman’s entree to film scoring came about when his friend, actor James Dean, introduced him to director Elia Kazan, who was about to cast Dean in his film of John Steinbeck’s EAST OF EDEN (1955) and who subsequently hired Rosenman for the music.
