Andreas Hess helps the reader to understand of American culture and politics through careful exploration of key and theorists. In the first half of the book he focuses on the core traditions of American social and political thought American exceptionalism, Calvinist Protestantism, republicanism, liberalism and 20th century pragmatism.
Andreas Hess is professor in sociology at University College Dublin. He is the author of The Political Theory of Judith N. Shklar: Exile from Exile (Palgrave Macmillan, 2016) and, together with Samantha Ashenden, editor of Judith N. Shklar's On Political Obligation (Yale University Press, 2019).
