Angaraag Mahanta (born 24 November 1975), known by his stagename Papon, is an Indian playback singer and composer from Assam. Papon has also sung in many languages apart from Assamese like Hindi, Bengali, Tamil and Marathi. He is the lead vocalist and founder of the folk-fusion band Papon and The East India Company.
Singer-composer Papon calls him an exception and stresses that he’s not a part of any race. “If I only wanted to make money and become popular, I would have done 10 other things,” he says.
