Sep 4, 2008 · Dennis Gansel: I took the original event as a starting point, but Ron Jones’s experiment took place 40 years ago and things have changed a lot since then. My intention was to make a contemporary film with a very realistic approach that raises the question of whether what happened back then in California could actually happen again today in Central Europe and, in particular, in Germany.

In seiner Jugend besuchte Dennis Gansel von 1987 bis 1993 die Tellkampfschule in Hannover, die er mit dem Abitur abschloss. In den Jahren 1993 bis 1995 leistete er seinen Zivildienst ab. Von 1994 bis in das Jahr 2000 studierte er mit seinem späteren langjährigen Produzenten-Kollegen und Freund Christian Becker an der Hochschule für Fernsehen und Film München.
