Pandit Kanshi Ram was born on 13 October 1883 in the village of Marauli Kalan in the Rupnagar district of Punjab (then in Ambala). His father, Sh. Ganga Ram ran a small grocery store in the village and also worked as a purohit. In search of greener pastures, Kanshi Ram migrated to the United States of America in 1905.

The statues of Bahujan Samajwadi Party (BSP) chief Mayawati, party founder Kanshi Ram and father of the Indian Constitution BR Ambedkar have been removed from the BSP's headquarters in Lucknow. The reason for the removal of the statues isn't known yet.
