Princess Alice of Battenberg (born Victoria Alice Elizabeth Julia Marie) was the mother of Prince Philip and mother-in-law of Queen Elizabeth II. Born Her Serene Highness Princess Alice of Battenberg, and eldest sister of Lord Mountbatten. Milford Haven was the father of Princess Alice (1885–1969), who married Prince Andrew of Greece (1882–1944); their only son, Prince Philip (1921–21), took the surname Mountbatten and was created duke of Edinburgh when he became a British subject in 1947 and married Princess Elizabeth, who became Queen Elizabeth II in 1952 and reigned until 2022.
