He took over the mantle from GK Mani. Anbumani Ramadoss earlier held the post of the party’s youth wing leader. His father, S Ramadoss founded the party in 1989.

Anbumani Ramadoss became the youngest minister to be appointed to Manmohan Singh‘s cabinet in 2004. He founded a number of organisations, including the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (2006), the Department of Health Research (2007), the National Institute of Communicable Diseases (2008), and the Public Health Foundation of India (2006).
