The biggest lion ever recorded and documented was around 375 kg (827 lbs) in weight. Lions are tawny, brown, gold or blonde in color and have a short coat with a long tail that has a tuft of longer fur at the end. The functions of the tuft is unknown, and it is absent at birth and develops at around 5 1⁄2 months of age.
