The opening shot of Mary Poppins sitting on a cloud contains a gag originally used in Disney's "Dumbo." While Poppins checks her make-up, her carpetbag slides "through" the cloud. She catches it repeatedly just before it falls to oblivion. The stork delivering Dumbo does the same thing with his bundle. The film was shot entirely indoors.
