John MacDonald Badham is an American film and television director and producer. Badham was born on August 25, 1939, in Luton, Bedfordshire, U.K. His mother was an actress, while his stepfather was a general for the U.S. Army. During the first years of his childhood, he lived in England, but during World War II, he and his family moved to the U.S. and he was raised in Alabama, where his biological father was native to. John Badham witnessed the delight of theatre and film at an early age, with his mother acting in many local theatre productions and his younger sister playing the role of Scout in To Kill a Mockingbird (1962). Badham, after a stint of acting in college, attended the Yale Drama School, where he received valuable training as a theater director of which he would later use on the screen.
From there, Badham was given the chance to associate produce the omnibus television movie, "Night Gallery" (1969), on which he also served as assistant director to neophyte filmmaker Steven Spielberg on a segment starring Joan Crawford.Badham became a full-fledged television director, helming "The Bold Ones" episode of the acclaimed but short-lived series, "The Senator" (NBC, 1970-71) starring Hal Holbrook.
