The longest river of the Deccan Plateau, River Godavari, originates near Trimbakeshwar of Nashik district at the height of 1067 m amsl, virtually bisects the plateau of Maharashtra, and flows for a length of about 1465 km before draining into the Bay of Bengal.

In this activity, it is proposed to develop medium-range flood early warning models for the major floodplains of Godavari and Tapi river basins using space based inputs through hydrological modelling approach, spatial flood inundation simulation models using high resolution ALTM DTM in the major floodplains of the rivers and Carto 10 m DEM for other prominent flood plains.
