Today’s Burdwan Medical College was established as ‘Burdwan University Medical College’ by the University of Burdwan in 1969. It was a humble beginning in a hollow brick building (Primary school). Foundation was laid down by the then Honourable Health Minister Late Nani Bhattacharyaa.

Later it was and rechristened Burdwan Medical College on 4 August 1976. The campus is spread over approximately 253 acres (102 ha).
