The Marrakesh Agreement of 1994 is the culmination of the GATT’s Uruguay Round that was introduced in 1986 and led to the establishment of the World Trade Organisation (WTO). The Marrakesh Declaration was signed by 123 nations on 15th April 1994 and WTO came into being on 1st January 1995.

It covered almost all trade, from toothbrushes to pleasure boats, from banking to telecommunications, from the genes of wild rice to AIDS treatments.
The Uruguay Round, launched at Punta del Este, Uruguay, in September 1986, and concluded at Marrakesh, Morocco, in March 1994, was the most important and successful of the eight General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade rounds of multilateral negotiations.
