Dhool ka Phool while not perfect is peppered with social commentary and subtly progressive ideas, perhaps mostly in its treatment of Meena and her fate. Nobody, except perhaps for Ashok Kumar's character keeps the judgement entirely out of their conversation, but there's something awfully wonderful about hearing Gangu Dai urging Meena to go on living because the good for nothing fella who betrayed is not worth her dying and that of course she can stay with her.
