Hyder Ali, the de facto ruler of the Kingdom of Mysore started the construction of this summer palace in 1781. His son Tipu Sultan also known as the Tiger of Mysore completed the construction after a decade.

The British took over the complex in the wake of Tipu’s final defeat.
