As per the folklore, the king offered the hand of Mastani to Bajirao and bequeathed a third of his kingdom to him in return for his help in the battle to defeat the Mughals.

The Marathas didn’t want her in the house. In fact, she was so unwelcome that for the few years that Mastani lived at Shaniwarwada, she was housed in a special wing known as ‘Mastani Mahal’.
