  2. Why visit Brisbane? We’re not ones to brag, but our River City these days gives the likes of Sydney and Melbourne a run for their money. Some of the country’s best restaurants reside within Brisbane, neighbouring a plethora of cafes, coffee houses, bars, pubs, and clubs that wouldn’t be out of place in a far larger metropolis.

    • The burgeoning Brizzy food scene. While Sydney and Melbourne’s restaurants have dominated ‘Best of Australia’ rankings, Brisbane’s growing culinary flex has forced these lists to start making room.
    • Street art & culture. Melbourne ought to take notice of the city up north, as Brisbane is quickly nipping at its heel as Australia’s place to be for excellent street art and culture.
    • Revitalised riverfront. Brisbane’s geography has always been defined by the serpentine Brisbane River, and recent waterfront developments have given locals and tourists reason to congregate closer.
    • Gateway to the Sunshine Coast. To the south of Brisbane lies ‘Australia’s playground,’ the Gold Coast, but to the north is the lesser-known, back-to-nature adventure of the Sunshine Coast.
    • South Bank. A little piece of everything in 17 hectares. From sub-tropical rainforest, a man-made beach, all the major cultural sites, food from around the globe, markets, awesome shopping, parks, walks, rollerblading and riverside promenade.
    • New Farm Park. Where the locals hang. Our tip? Take a scenic ferry ride along Brisbane River to New Farm (and don’t forget to pack a picnic and some drinks).
    • The River Cruise. If New Farm Park isn’t your thing then just do the river cruise! It may just be me but there is something pretty cool about a river cruise and a Brisbane river cruise is a must.
    • Queen Street Mall. Located in the CBD of Brisbane, Queen Street Mall is a pedestrian only area lined with loads and loads of retail stores (over 700 in fact), shops, cafes, bars and more.
