Takasaki (高崎市, Takasaki-shi, [takasakiɕi]) is a city located in Gunma Prefecture, Japan. As of 31 August 2020, the city had an estimated population of 372,369 in 167,345 households, [1] and a population density of 810 persons per km 2. The total area of the city is 459.16 square kilometres (177.28 sq mi).
A transport and business hub located just under an hour from Tokyo by shinkansen, the city of Takasaki has remained largely off-radar to the majority of foreign visitors, except perhaps as a stop on the way to Gunma's better known hot spring destinations.

Takasaki is 50 minutes away from Tokyo on the Jouetsu-Hokuriku Shinkansen line. It's home to one of the best hot springs in Japan, the Kusatsu Onsen, as well as the Tomioka Silk Mill, a World Heritage Site. It acts as a connecting point between Tokyo and all of Gunma Prefecture’s sightseeing spots.
