Rivne (/ ˈ r ɪ v n ə /; Ukrainian: Рівне, IPA: ⓘ) is a city in western Ukraine. The city is the administrative center of Rivne Oblast ( province ), as well as the surrounding Rivne Raion ( district created in the USSR) within the oblast. [ 2 ]

The first known written mention of Rivne as one of the settlements of the Kingdom of Galicia-Volhynia dates back to 1283. This is a Latin entry in the Polish chronicle “Rocznik kapituly krakowskiej”. From the second half of the 14th century, Rivne was under the rule of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania.
