Pinglu County (simplified Chinese: 平陆县; traditional Chinese: 平陸縣; pinyin: Pínglù Xiàn) is a county in southern Shanxi province of China. It is under the administration of the prefecture-level city of Yuncheng and has a population of approximately 200,000 people.

The Shanxi Rift System or Fen–Wei Rift System[1] is a zone of active extensional tectonics that forms the eastern margin of the Ordos Block in northern China. The zone extends for at least 900 km (560 mi) and runs south-southwest to north-northeast.
This Rift Valley is located in Pinglu, Shanxi on the Loess Plateau, a mountainous area in north-central China that covers about 400,000 square kilometers. It was formed because of movements inside the Earth’s crust and is about 10 km long.
Construction of the Pinglu Canal, one of the major projects of China's new western land-sea corridor, began on Sunday in Qinzhou, Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region. With a total investment of 72.73 billion yuan ($10.5 billion), the Pinglu Canal will take about 54 months to complete.
