Lancashire (/ ˈ l æ ŋ k ə ʃ ər / LAN-kə-shər, /-ʃ ɪər /-sheer; abbreviated Lancs) is a ceremonial county in North West England. It is bordered by Cumbria to the north, North Yorkshire and West Yorkshire to the east, Greater Manchester and Merseyside to the south, and the Irish Sea to the west.

Lancashire is a county of England, in the northwest of the country. The county did not exist in 1086, for the Domesday Book, and was apparently first created in 1182, [1] making it one of the youngest of the traditional counties. The historic county consisted of two separate parts. The main part runs along the northwestern coast of England.
- Queen Street Mill. Lancashire was once the center of the world’s cotton textile industry. Mills, such as this one near the town of Burnley, employed thousand of people at their late 19th century height.
- Blackpool. Blackpool is the classic English seaside resort. It revels in the tackiness of its Amusement Arcades (penny slot machines and video games), its Pleasure Beach theme park and other attractions, originally designed for the vacationing workers of the local mill towns.
- Lancaster. The city that gives the county its name, Lancaster is an ancient city boasting a fine cathedral, castle and the (pictured) Ashton Memorial overlooking the city.
- Knowsley Safari Park. An open air zoo with a strong conservation background is a great place to take the (grand)kids. Part of the Knowsley Estate, on the ancestral estate of the Earl of Derby.
