Karlovo (Bulgarian: Карлово) is a beautiful town of about 20,000 inhabitants (2021) in the Balkan Mountains of Bulgaria. It's best known as the birthplace of Bulgarian national hero Vasil Levski who organised an uprising against the Ottoman rule in the late 19th century.
The city center is not too big, has some nice shops, breathes a pleasant atmosphere and you can walk around comfortably. I was here in COVID times, so not too busy on the streets anyway. Karlovo has some nice spots and it's easy to walk into the nature of Stara Reka reserve from here (10 minutes).
