DOLPH'S THOUGHTS: It was based on a comic strip and it was the first time I played a darker heroic character. The movie was shot in Australia. I went to school there, on a scholarship to the University of Sydney in 1982, so it was interesting to come back there starring in a movie.
Dolph Lundgren stars as Frank Castle, a veteran cop who loses his entire family to a mafia car bomb. His ex-partner believes Castle survived the blast and became the Punisher, living in the sewers and exacting vigilante violence against mob bosses throughout the city.
The Punisher was partially well received by fans and critics, scoring a 28% at Rotten Tomatoes, a reviewing movie site. The Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe A to Z Hardcover Vol 4 officially named the world the movie's events take place in as Earth-58627. The film was adapted into a comic, Punisher Movie Special #1, in 1990.
