Juarez, city, Chihuahua state, northern Mexico. It is located on the Rio Grande opposite El Paso, Texas, with which it is connected by bridges. Formerly known as El Paso del Norte, it was renamed (1888) for Mexican President Benito Juarez, who headquartered there during his struggle against the French.
