Changanassery, (Malayalam: ചങ്ങനാശ്ശേരി; IPA: [t͡ʃɐŋːɐnaːʃeːɾi]) is a municipality [3] in the Kottayam district of Kerala, India. It is located 17 km (10.6 mi) south of the district headquarters in Kottayam and about 115 km (71.5 mi) north of the state capital Thiruvananthapuram.
Changanassery is a tourist destination place located in the Kottayam district of Kerala state. Earlier, Changanassery was known as Anchu Vilakinte Pattanam or “The City of Five Lamps”. During old time, this city was a major trading hub of Kerala. After the War in year of 1750 at Changanassery, the city was captured by the King Marthanda Varma.
