Črnomelj is the traffic centre of the Bela krajina, because of its central position. At the same time is also the cultural place, famous of the traditional »jurjevanje«, a three-day festival in mid-June of music, dance and bonfires.
The town of Črnomelj, with its 3,000 years of history, is situated on a natural promontory between the Lahinja and Dobličica rivers. The canal between the two rivers was built during the time of the Turkish raids and the Turks never conquered the town.
