Peter Leslie Shilton CBE (born 18 September 1949) is an English former professional footballer who played as a goalkeeper. His 31-year career included spells at 11 clubs and he has the unique distinction of playing over 1,000 English league games, including in excess of 100 for five different clubs.
- Only three England players have appeared in more major tournament (World Cup + Euros) matches than Peter Shilton (20), with his 20 appearances the most of any goalkeeper. - Shilton, however, holds the record for most caps for England at the World Cup, playing 17 times at the 1982, 1986 and 1990 editions.
Biography. Peter Shilton OBE , started his Goalkeeping career as an apprentice for Leicester City at 15 years old, making his debut at 16 becoming the youngest player to have played for his hometown club. At the age of 17 Peter started playing for the club after they sold Gordon Banks.
