Selve uttrykket «lange, flate ballær» skal visstnok stamme fra 1949, da regjerende mester Sarpsborg Fotballklubb skulle spille cupfinale mot Skeid. Sigrun Riise var kontordame på Sarpsborg Papp, og lagde et kamprop for SFK. Kampropet lød slik: «Blå og hvite kællær ut på banen tællær. Lange, flate ballær døm i nettet skallær.».
