Alsancak Railway Station and Quay. The Alsancak Railway Station (Turkish: Alsancak Tren Garı) is the oldest railway station in Turkey, built by the "Oriental Railway Company" (ORC) incorporated in 1856, to build a railway line from İzmir to Aydın. The main building of the station was completed in 1858 and the line to Aydin was opened in 1866.

Alsancak is a great little part of Izmir. There is a cute little strip of tavula (backgammon), tea, döner, Efes beer and christmas lights. If you go down towards the water it gets much more expensive, so I would suggest getting a little picnic or something and sitting down on the little brick wall near the water or just sitting around with some of the locals, drink tea and play backgammon.
